Story

Woman in red crew neck shirt

This is the most recent image of my Mental Health Project. The first intention behind this self-portrait was some of my clients, who wanted me to change them on the images. Knowing about my skills and editing style, they thought it would be a good idea to ask me to shrink their bodies or airbrush their skin completely. I wanted to raise attention to the extremely high and unrealistic expectations we give to ourselves to fit in to the idea of beauty, to be fancy and stylish... problem is, that meanwhile we loose ourselves. This image is such a vulnerable topic for me, as on the left side, I did nothing to my face. That's the raw me, imperfect, yet covers up so many untold things. The right side is not me, but someone I wanted to be... pretty, smooth skin, gorgeous eye, perfect lips etc. This image doesn't stay on the visual level. It tries to represent all those things we expect from ourselves, all the comparison we do on a daily basis, all our insecurities and so on. I want to touch as many people with this photo, as possible. They need to know, that they don't need to be perfect, that we all having those ridiculous expectations, and it's OKAY to be real.
