This Piece was inspired by a poem “The World’s Greatest Discovery” by Edgar Guest, an American poet, (1926). When I accidentally read it, this was the visual that came in my head. A sailor and mermaid. In folklore and movies, mermaid usually portrayed as a bad thing, she sing her enchanting songs and lure sailors to death. That can be a scary thing since the sea is mysterious and unknown, just like life. However, I also found out that mermaids also have positive symbolic meanings which signifies wealth, success, love and happiness in the future which is why I made this artwork. Since this year has felt like a sea full of uncertainty, the mermaid meaning let us know that it’s ok, that we have nothing to fear and as a reminder for us to let go and jump in. Which in my case, keep doing the work and making things (I know it’s easier said than done!)
