Every year a colorful event takes place in Cologne with many supporting events, the Cologne Pride (Cologne = Cologne and Pride = Pride), one category is the Gay Prid (pride in sexuality and strong self-respect). The festival, which has been organized by the Kölner Lesben- und Schwulentag e. V. since 1991, stands up for the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals. It was motivated and animated by the first uprising of homosexuals or other sexual minorities against the arbitrariness of the police, in New York's Christopher Street.
