Story

Snow covered mountain under blue sky during night time

I arrived at Yosemite to photograph moon-bows and found, to my dismay that that there was a controlled-burn being done in the valley. While these are necessary, and I totally support park maintenance it killed the point of my 6 hour drive. However, if I'm in a location I'm gonna make some photos so, undaunted I climbed the long and arduous Yosemite Falls trail. 2400 feet and 3 hours later I reached the top. My destination being Yosemite Point, I had another mile to go. I'm 67 years old and to say I was exhausted doesn't even come close but ONWARD. About a mile later only sign pointed me to Half Dome. There was no direction to Yosemite point. As the sun was rapidly setting I was irate. I had worked that hard for nothing? I screamed out at my despair startling a pair of deer who, miraculously didn't see me as a threat but more of a curiosity. In my frustration I yelled at the closest stag; "Ok, YOU show me the effing trail!! With that, he bounded up a rise so I followed him to see this. I almost killed myself getting my equipment set up. After I made the exposure I started to wake up to the emergence of my situation; I'm beyond exhausted, I only have camera equipment (not camping), I have a quarter container of water, (no food) and I can't see the trail I came up on.
