John Lewis body at the U.S. Capitol

Chinese New Year 2020: This photo represents the last time I went to a large celebration right before the start of the pandemic. I was living in Bangkok and Chinatown hosted one of the largest Chinese New Years celebrations in the world. There was so much love and excitement in the air. Not one of us had any idea that this would be the last big celebration in Thailand for over a year. Looking back at this photo makes me appreciate life so much as the pandemic made the world realize how much we take for granted. #HarperCollins Empty BWI Airport: #HarperCollins This photo is from 2020. I traveled through airports in the U.S. in May and you could just see how empty they were. I had never seen an airport this empty before and this photo showed how travel was affected by the pandemic. John Lewis Resting: #HarperCollins This photo is from 2020. In 2020 racism was highlighted and the entire world protested when George Floyd was murdered by police officers. John Lewis died shortly after and I was able to visit the body of John Lewis as he resided at the U.S. Capitol where I ran into young kids with their grandma who had signs supporting him. I took a knee in front of his body for 15 minutes and just thought about how much work is left to be done to fight white supremacy. Then I walked to the Black Lives Matter Plaza to take a photo of the street sign. It was a year of protest for me and that is the best way for me to remember 2020.
