Story

Wildlife portrait green jay on branch

This image was taken as the cold Front that made history rolled into South Texas. I had decided to stay one more night at the ranch so I could get some Photographs of the birds at my pond in the rain. I did not expect Freezing rain or even freezing temperatures. As the time passed while in my blind the temperature plummeted but the birds just continued on about there business. The idea of getting wet birds turned into slowing down the icee rain to get blurred frozen rain with the bird. When I left my blind that evening it was so cold even the dirt road was frozen. As the night progressed we lost power and water at the ranch in the overnight hours. We moved to the main house on the ranch that had a backup generator in the middle of the night. The next day we work up to at least a inch of ice on the dirt roads. All roads in South Texas were closed so my one extra night at the ranch ended up being 4 more night till the extreme Arctic freeze in south texas passed and the roads all reopened.
