I created this portrait of my elderly mum 3 years ago, hoping to highlight both the vulnerability and strength that can come with ageing and the passage of time. The portrait also shows strength and vitality and an unwillingness to give up, as depicted through the symbolism of the dandelion. My mum used to be a Montessori school teacher and her portrayal in my portrait symbolises the nurturing and educational qualities that women leaders can embody, connecting the importance of creativity, empathy and recognising the significance of equal education amongst genders and the encouragement of young girls to develop the confidence and skills needed to pursue education. #ifwomen
